Call-Out: Designer, The Diary of Attica Lehane

Description

leo&hyde are a Manchester-based musical theatre company. We're a small and friendly team, who get excitable about new music, theatre and technology.

The Diary of Attica Lehane is a new musical, a futuristic reflection on The Diary of Anne Frank, in collaboration with Israeli cellist Talia Erdal, and Helen Milne Production. It takes us to a tech-surveillance dystopia, where dissidents and undesirables are forced to hide in off-grid bunkers. Attica records her diaries in VR while painting 3D worlds, recreating memories to imagined futures context. Here’s the blurb:

You’re in a bunker, hiding from a relentless surveillance state. How do you stay
sane? Attica’s secret weapon is VR, painting expansive virtual worlds, while the
real world crumbles around her. She records her story in a series of virtual
reality diaries. Tragic, funny and inspiring in equal measure, these are an
emotional reminder that the future is created today, and emerging technologies
need to be nurtured if they are to be a force for creativity as opposed to control.

After two R&Ds, we’re doing our first public performance in Sheffield in May, and are looking for a designer to come on board.

We want a set designer to work with the creative team, projection designer Sam Gee and VR artist Kayleigh Eliza to create a simple but effective set and lighting design that creates an appropriate surface for projection mapping - which is the main visual feature.

We’re particularly looking for a designer with set and lighting experience, but also experience in working with projection, and knowing what materials to use for effective projection mapping, and how to simply create a sense of depth. They should also be comfortable sourcing / building the sets they design.

We welcome people of all backgrounds.

As a Mancunian company, and artists-in-residence at Enable US Sheffield, we are especially interested in hearing from Northern designers.

This is Tilt Brush, which is what Attica uses to paint.
