“Intro to VR” Workshops for Performers

  • Are you an actor?

  • Are you based in the North West?

We’d like to invite you to a FREE two-day Intro to VR for performers workshop on 17th and 18th March at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.

Funded by the Arts Council to accompany the tour of our first VR musical, Double Life, about a Northern gay man with a love-hate relationship with technology (and himself).

Virtual reality is one of the most exciting emerging areas of 21st entertainment, and we want to ensure that there’s a strong Northern representation in this medium. We’ll be asking questions like:

  • What does virtual reality mean for theatre?

  • What’s been done before? What does the future hold?

  • What new techniques can actors learn to prepare for it?

Who are we?

We’re a Mancunian musical theatre collective obsessed with fusing pop music with new tech. We’ve been exploring VR in theatre since 2020, whether creating animated musical shorts or integrating it into our shows Double Life and The Diary of Attica Lehane, and we’ve been creating videos with it and leading workshops all around the UK.

We’re a small and friendly team, and are especially excited about building a community of theatremakers excited about technology here in the North West.

There are places in this FREE workshop to share what we’ve learnt so far.

What will you learn?

Over the course of the two days, you’ll have a chance to play with VR headsets and see some examples of theatre made with headsets.

There will be practice-based sessions on:

  • performance for 360 cameras;

  • avateering a virtual character;

  • facilitating VR theatre;

  • how to create original work in VR;

  • and much, much more.

Does it cost?

Nope! Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, all participants will be given a per diem of £50/day (£100 total) to cover any travel / food necessary.
